Goudsesingel,

1st of July,
The day smoking in restaurants, cafe's, sportshalls etc. is banned in the Netherlands. Now you'd think it would be easy to get a No Sign (this months theme) from that, but no.

Does anyone have any idea what kind of shop doesn't allow children or dogs in it?

Curious about the no-signs in other cities?

Not a clue what kind of shop, but I like it. Perhaps a bar or restaurant?

No, but it seems to be common.

Nice to see you in the shot, too, Ineke!
I'm thinking it's either a bar or a spa/salon.

Yes, my guess is a hotel, too. What does the whole thing say - like the bit down the bottom ... "also no other mmm something" ... help!

Hi Ineke,

The bees are back in Brookville, Ohio. I hope for the rest of the year at least. I even got one on my Better Blog Writing post today. LOL

I see you found an adorable No sign for our July Theme Day. I am for dogs everywhere. No dogs allowed in Heaven then I ain't going there. LOL

Isn't it almost funny to think of adult people scurrying around their communities taking pictures of signs. And if somebody had asked what that is all about and you said a sign with "no" on it, they might... well. It is kind of funny.

Thanks all for your comments.
Underneath is says; Not even when accompanied.

And no it is not a hotel nor a bar.

I was very interested to see your explanation that the after-thought expressed in parentheses at the bottom of the sign add that dogs are not allowed even when accompanied. If they had not added that at the bottom of the sign, did they expect unaccompanied dogs to read the sign?

Interesting sign. I've seen lots of signs that say 'no' to dogs, but never 'no' to children! What kind of a shop is this?

A great find, ineke, that has really got us all thinking!

It's gotta be a sex shop?

Adult-themed stores? Libraries? A jewelers? I give up, but great picture!

Happy Theme Day!

I agree that an "adult" store is a possibility. Just maybe a liquor store. But, since it's in the Netherlands, it could also be one of those cafes where they sell other things to smoke besides tobacco. We don't want any stoned dogs wandering the streets of Rotterdam, do we?

Makro! Just a wild guess. In Indonesia we have Makro that doesn't allow children coming inside the store. Until now I really don't know the reason why.

Ineke said...

haha, actually the Makro does allow children now (but it didn't used to).

It's got to do with the direction you're thinking now: a tattoo shop

When the smoking ban was brought in here in the UK on 1st July last year it was a legal requirement for every shop, bar, restaurant, cafe etc to display a No Smoking sign - the Government sent them out to everyone!

I think its probably a Sex Shop that doesn't allow children or dogs!!

USelaine said...

Hey! Nice to see the photographer there! So, what kind of tattoo did you get? ;^)

Now that's not fair - tatooing a dog who always ran away would be useful.

I guess an antique shop or somewhere with a lot of breakable merchandise might not allow dogs or kids.

I was going to guess a china shop. It's a very nice sign and there appears to be a very pretty lady reflected in the glass:)

Yep, I would've guessed an adult shop too. Neat pic for theme day!
