Burg. Meineszplein
This little Turkish supermarket is representative for the "super"markets in my neighborhood. They sell anything from fruit till vegetables till baklava.
Usually no meat. Only halal (ritually slaughtered) sheep and sometimes chicken.
They're much much cheaper than our regular supermarkets and make very long hours.
It's quite handy that they are open on all the Christian holidays (X-mas and the lot) because if you happen to run out of toilet paper then, there's always help nearby.
ps; don't forget to check out the other Daily Cities today to see what their supermarkets look like!

Wwe have a lot of turkish supermarkets opened over the last five years around here, too - I'm saving those for another day!
That looks like a nice little place to shop (the baklava is calling to me).
Sadly we have no Turkish "super"markets in my hometown. Shopping on a Christian holiday is a challenge plus the fresh produce looks appealing.
In the U.S. we have a chain of food stores that stay open all night called 7-11. They got that name because when they first opened in the 1970s, they were open every day from 7 am to 11 at night, unheard of at that time. But the 7-11s are less interesting than your Turkish grocer!
hi dutchie - another great indepths look at your town - I do not know much about halal so I will ask google hehe- thanks for sharing!
I do not know any about halal either, must go now to wikipedia. Bye.
Ok.To explain halal food is a bit err... gross. So if you are a sensitive person, skip the rest :)
The jewish and muslim tradition say that an animal must be alive (better said the blood must be flowing and i think there must be a heartbeat)when it gets killed.
Now usually (not that that's any less gross!) our sheeps get a high voltage bar put against their head and i don't even want to think what they do to the cows, before their throats are cut.
So basically in order for meat to be halal (the opposite is haram)the animal's throat is cut while it's alive.
Hi,
My family and I are new to Holland. Can we have the address of this little turkish supermarket so we can buy our supply of halal chicken and sheep. Thanks much!
